Welcome to Saint Peter's Catholic Church

A Country Church In The City

As a family, Saint Peter's Catholic Community is committed to the gospel of Jesus--love, justice and mercy. We express these values and utilize our talents by the celebration of the sacraments, on-going education, fellowship, and service to each other, and to the larger community of Council Bluffs, the Diocese and the Universal Church.

LENTEN PROGRAMS
The Lenten season will be upon us shortly. There are materials for everyone. For the adults there is a book entitled: “Turning Stones into Gems”. The children from ages 5 to 12 have the book entitled: “Why are These Days Different.” The junior and senior high school student have a calendar, Lent 2012. Each day it gives them a task that they may wish to do to deepen their spiritual awareness of Jesus’ presence in their life during the Lenten season. There is also something to put on your key chain. I ask you to pray the prayer on the back of the key chain every time you take the key chain out of your pocket to make the Lenten season a more spiritual time for you. I wish to thank the Liturgy Committee for their work in choosing the Lenten materials. We have had such great success in the past with these Lenten materials and I hope that we will have an-other great Lenten season.

LENTEN SOUP SUPPERS
Once again we will have Mass, Stations of the Cross and a soup supper to follow. I don’t know if we will have a program during the soup suppers for certain. I am working on some ideas for the Lenten season but I haven’t finalized this as of the writing of this bulletin. The mass will begin at 5:45 p.m. and the stations of the cross and the soup supper will follow. I hope that many of you will plan to attend these soup suppers . This is one of the best activities that we do during the Lenten season and it is a wonderful way to get to know many of the people in the parish and enjoy some of the finest soups in the world.

FEAST OF ST. BLAISE
This Friday is the feast of St Blaise. It is very difficult for many of you to attend mass during the week so we will bless throats after all the masses on the weekend of February 4 and 5. This is one of the great traditions of our church. So take the extra time after mass to have your throat blest.

CONFIRMATION PROGRAM
The formal confirmation classes have begun. In the next 11 months the confirmation students will be participating in many activities in the parish. The reason for this is that I hope that by participating in many of the activities of the parish that it will help them to have a greater understanding of what a Catholic person should do and know to be truly a Catholic person. The greatest thing about this approach is that hopefully it will inspire these young people to be involved in their parish as they move into adulthood. This is one of the best ways for these young people to grow in their faith. I hope that one of these Sundays to give you a formal presentation on the various requirements of the Confirmation students. Please remember these young people in your prayers. It is a wonderful time of God’s grace for these young people.

Men’s Prayer Group
The men’s prayer group meets every first and third Thursday of the month. The meetings are from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. in the rectory. These meetings are open to all men of the parish. These meetings always are insightful and wonderful way to grow in faith and meet some great men of faith.

Women’s Prayer Group
The women’s prayer group meets every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. in the conference room. This is a wonderful opportunity to grow in your faith and to meet some great ladies of faith.
