Welcome to Saint Peters Catholic Church

A Country Church In The City

As a family, Saint Peter's Catholic Community is committed to the gospel of Jesus--love, justice and mercy. We express these values and utilize our talents by the celebration of the sacraments, on-going education, fellowship, and service to each other, and to the larger community of Council Bluffs, the Diocese and the Universal Church.

Our Church Commmitties

Finance Committee
The members of the committee meet monthly with the pastor to monitor the financial state of the parish.

Liturgy
This committee is the most important of all the committees in the parish because the primary purpose of our Church is the worship of God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. This committee's purpose is to guide and direct the liturgical life of the parish. It directs all the training of the Mass ministries. It also helps with the planning of all the Holy days, holidays and liturgical seasons of the church year. The committee works closely with the Pastor to enrich liturgy and services and to plan retreats and days of renewal.

Parish Life
The committee is in charge of planning and implementing parish functions to bring the family of St. Peter's together-both spiritually and socially. Activities include the parish picnic, Octoberfest decorating, Christmas caroling, St. Patrick's Day party, Lenten soup suppers, Summerfest and various other social activities throughout the year. The committee also acts as the welcoming part of the parish to new members of Saint Peter's. In addition to extending a welcome to these new members, special invitations are sent out inviting them to attend various Parish Life functions.

Building and Grounds Committee
The primary purpose of this committee is to maintain the parish facilities and grounds. The committee will assess the needs of each building and of the grounds of the parish, and help with any projects that are undertaken regarding these facilities. The committee will also be in charge of keeping the priests' retirement home in good order. The committee will help keep the physical aspect of the parish in good repair and preserve the buildings so that the people of the parish will enjoy it for years to come.

Religious Education Committee
This committee deals with the religious education programs in the parish. The committee helps guide the Wednesday night religious education program. This committee also assesses and implements programs that will be offered for the enhancement of the faith life of the adult members of St. Peter's parish. The programs offered by the committee will give all members of Saint Peter's parish an opportunity to deepen their relationship with the Church and with Jesus Christ.

Social Concerns Committee
This committee is the social outreach arm of the parish. The main function of the committee is to put our spiritual faith into action by using our time and talent to help those who are less fortunate. The committee is involved with two very important programs: the ministry to the homebound people of the parish and the Right to Life ministry. Other programs assisted are Meals on Wheels, MOHM's Place, the visiting of nursing homes, Micah House, Community Food Basket, and Catholic Charities Domestic Violence Shelter. This committee also assists the parish in collecting Christmas gifts for needy families in the area.
