Members Present: Father Chuck, Jim Beck, Mark Beckman, Mary Brockelsby, Marian Brown, Sheryl= Garst, Rebecca Gaw, Glady= s Michalski, Anne Rohling.

    

Members Absent:= Dan McGinn.

 

8:00 = p.m. by Sheryl Garst. Father Chuck said the opening prayer. The members present read the mission statement. Motion by Mary Brockelsby to approve the June 5, 2007 minutes. Seconded

by Mark Beckman. Motion ca= rried.

 

August 7, 2007.

Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. in the social hall. Anyone wishing

to join a committee is wel= come to attend.

 

Saint Albert School Board- Father Chuck/ John Cool/ Tom Liston.  In the June meeting we discussed the building addition to the Gleason campus. We will hopefully break ground for= the project this fall. The staff is continuing efforts to increase enrollment at the school. No figures will be known

until the opening of school. = The July meeting was a picnic so there is no report.

Parish Life-Rebecca Gaw. The committee discussed Summerfest. There were not as many parishioners attending this year’s event but the total for the silent auction, raffles, and the pastor’s auction

was over $13,000. We are pl= eased with the results and hope to get more parishioners involved in next year= 217;s Summerfest. The annual parish picnic will be September 9, 2007. The Parish = Life Committee will provide chicken, baked beans, and soda. Parishioners are ask= ed to bring desserts (A-F) and salads, vegetables, or other side dishes (G-Z).= A flyer will be printed to be inserted in the bulletin.  There will be a cake walk, horseba= ck rides, helium balloons, bingo and raffles.

Religious Education- Sheryl Garst. Catechetical Sunday is tentatively= September 16, 2007. After the 10 a.m. Mass = there will be a brunch. A Religious Education budget was submitted to Father Chuck.

Vac= ation Bible School, Women’s Retreat, supplies, etc. The Women’s Retreat was discuss= ed. Women of Faith will be the topic. “Mary” will be the theme with special speakers. The date will b= e Saturday, October 20, 200= 7, with attending the 4 p.m. Mass, dinner following the mass, and a program from 6-8:30 p.m. We discussed the Vacation Bible School. We reviewed comments from volunteers and children who participated. There were 54 volun= teers and 66 children. Next year’s Vacation Bible School will be the same time of the summer. This year’s Religious Education program calendar and change in volunteer teachers was discussed. The Parish Mission is to be around Lent and a topic is yet to be determined. We finali= zed the dates for the next Generations = of Faith program. September 30, 2007 - Baptism, December 2,2007 - Baptism of the Lord, January 27,2008= - Confirmation, and April 13, 2008 – The Eucharist. Times will be from 1-4 p.m. and start with dinner. Meals, activities, songs, decorations, and informational packets were also discuss= ed.

Social Concerns- Marian Brown. The committee reviewed the shut-ins list. We will be

collecting school supplies to dona= te to local schools & St. Albert= ’s. We discussed options for Christmas donations.

Altar Society- Gladys Michalski. The Altar Society held two meetings since the last Parish Council meeting in June, one on July 5th and one on August 7th. The dates for the Fall Rummage Sale were announced. On October 18th merchandise can be brought to the social hall after 12 p.m. The sale will begin

the nominating committee. J= o Anne Behm has volunteered to serve on the committee. Additional members will

be selected at the Septemb= er meeting. Members were reminded that we will need crafts, baked goods, and canned goods for the Craft Table and Country Store. Three new members were introduced at the August meeting. They are: Jeanette K= arpe, Sandra McKeever and Maxine Marshall. The next m= eeting will be held on S= eptember 6, 2007.

 

 

Worship and Spirituality-Mary Brockelsby. The com= mittee planned the liturgy for

August 12- September 9, 2007 and the Liturgy Corner for the church bulletin. Father will be doing a special blessing for students returning to school at the masses August 18 &= amp; 19, 2007.

Youth Ministry- Mark Beckman. We trained 11 new altar servers this past summer. They have been “shadowing” for 2 months and will get on the regular schedule in September. There are now a total of 60+  servers at St. Peter’= s. The committee has selected Jesus Loves = Me pencils to give to the children at the children’s collection at Mass = one Sunday in August. We have gone over the budget and yearly calendar of events for our Youth Ministry program. Our high school service group teen will host and help at the Red Cross blood drive on August 11 in our social hall. This= is our 2nd year to sponsor the event. We are planning our high scho= ol Leadership Institute program and our high school service group projects for= the 2007-2008 school year. Teens have been invited t= o participate in this curriculum and an informational meeting will be held August 12th. We have added

a new component to our Me= ntor Program this year. On Wednesday, August 22nd, the First Communion students/parents will meet their Confirmation partners/ parents at an ice c= ream social as a way to begin the Mentor Program for the year. We will hold a special training for students in grades 1-7 who want to learn and practice = to be a reader at the grade level Masses this year. Training will be in the ch= urch on Sunday, August 26th, from 1-2 p.m. The grade level Masses will begin to be scheduled for the regular parish Masses beginning in September with the students having the opportunity to participate in these Masses as ministers. The elementary students are recognized each month at their grade level Mass.

Knights of Columbus- Father Chuck. We have applied for the star council but there is some question as to wheth= er it will be awarded because we sent one report in four days late. We are wor= king with the state deputy grand knight to rectify this situation. The annual Tootsie Roll Drive has kicked off. Ninety percent

of the money raised stays = in Council Bluffs. A = total of $5,983 was raised and is down $300-$400 from last year. <= /p>

Buildings and Grounds- Jim Beck. We are planning a cleanup around the parking lot of

weeds and trees. Signs to rem= ind parishioners to turn off cell phones during Mass are completed. Painting

around the social hall doors w= ill take place in September. The carpet in the social hall will be replaced with commercial grade carpet tiles. The tiles can be replaced individually if st= ains won’t come out.
